I was born in Kansas City, KS and lived there for about a year, after which my
dad did his fellowship at Saint Louis University. We lived in Maryland Heights, MO for some time
and moved to St. Charles in 1988, which was where I grew up and attended grades K-12. I spent six years in Champaign-Urbana earning my BS and MS, and in 2008 I bought a house and moved to Lawrence, KS.
Lawrence is a great place to run my little business and be close to family.
I enjoy music and technology, and I have the great fortune of being able to travel often.
Education
I attended St. Charles West High School in St. Charles, MO beginning in fall 1998. I was involved in jazz, marching, and concert bands, and later I became involved with the science club. I hold a BS in computer science and an MS in accounting from the University of Illinois.
Family
I have two brothers at university in Illinois, but I live in Lawrence, not far from family in KC, Wichita, and Hays.
Friends
(well, those with websites anyway)
Travel
This is by no means a comprehensive list; I have been fortunate to travel quite extensively.
Longer Trips (usually 7-10 days, some longer; usually occured over spring or summer break):
- Chicago
- Phoenix/Scottsdale
- Washington, DC (got to go up into the capitol dome....it's closed off nowadays)
- Wyoming (almost two weeks long, very very beautiful)
- Seattle, with a day trip to Victoria, Canada (long time ago, but pretty as I recall)
- New York (cool, but I wouldn't want to live on Manhattan Island)
- Boston (liked the historical stuff)
- Alaska (one of my personal favorites, included a Cruise)
- San Francisco Bay (so beautiful that I applied to Stanford and Berkeley)
- London and Paris (Summer 2002, another favorite)
- Colorado (learning to fly fish, rafting)
- Los Angeles (the movie industry is cool, but the smog is bad and I can't say I'd ever want to live there)
Some of the shorter trips, mostly band related:
- SUPERBOWL!! Winter 2002, my dear Rams vs. the evil Patriots (New Orleans, LA)
- Lawrence, KS and Springfield, MO for a number of different music camps
- Tulsa, OK for a marching competition (Freshman, Sophomore, and Senior years in HS)
- Washington, DC for the 4th of July Parade
- Pennsylvania for the Illini vs. Penn State game (fall 2002)
- Midwest Clinic in Chicago (with my high school jazz band, Winter 1999)
- Fiesta Bowl, Tempe (again, band trip, Winter 2001/2002)
- Houston, TX (overnight to check out Rice University)
- San Fran again (check out Stanford and Cal)
I will also admit to having visited Ann Arbor to check out Michigan....though of course I have no loyalty to them ;-).
Places I haven't been and things I'd like to do:
- Normandy (we could have done it on the Paris/London trip but would have had to sacrifice something else)
- Sounds crazy, but I'd like to skydive sometime; Mom says she'll kill me if I do :-(
- Berlin and the Rhineland, Germany
- Hong Kong sounds interesting, but I'm not sure if I'd like it or not
- I'll take another cruise. Anywhere. I mean it.
